How does GDPR relate to computer services?
EU General Data Protection Regulation GDPR sets out a number of requirements that data centre services must meet to improve data protection and help reduce the risk of data breaches. One of the key requirements is data collection minimisation, which means that only the personal data that is necessary should be collected and processed. Equally important is the protection of the data that is collected. The company must ensure that all personal data is appropriately protected, for example by encrypting the data and restricting access to it. In addition GDPR specifies that data security breaches must be reported to authorities within 72 hours.
GDPR also requires companies to support their customers' rights, such as access to their data, rectification and deletion. This means that the Data Center Service Provider must be able to provide its customers with the necessary tools and processes to exercise these rights.

Backup extends the Veeam Backup & Replication suite installed in a company's own service environment with cloud storage. The cloud storage provided by the service can also be used to back up individual physical or virtual servers using the Veeam Agent software. The cloud storage acts as a so-called offsite backup, providing protection against possible equipment failures, theft and loss of local backups (for example, fire). The service itself does not limit the retention period of the backed up data in any way.
JMJ 365 BackUp - Microsoft 365 BackUp
Many Finnish companies use the Microsoft 365 service. The service itself only offers a recycle bin and version history for data recovery, with a limited recovery window. Most users do not necessarily understand that they are responsible for the preservation and backup of their own data.
The most common reason for data loss is that the user deletes or overwrites old data with new ones. It is worth noting that data loss or damage is usually not noticed until a longer period of time has passed, and if the data has not been properly backed up, it is almost impossible to investigate what has happened to the lost data or to recover it.
